Africa CDC cannot trace $700m given for Congo's Ebola response
Donors say they paid out $962 million; a joint check found just over $200 million reached the groups running the response. Fewer than 30% of partners came to account for it.

Kinshasa — Africa's public health agency is demanding an account of more than $700 million meant for fighting Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo that it cannot trace, Africanews reports.
Africa CDC's director-general, Dr Jean Kaseya, told a press conference in Kinshasa on Wednesday that:
- donors reported paying $962 million to the organisations implementing the response
- a joint verification with Congolese health authorities traced just over $200 million to the organisations actually working on it
- that leaves more than $700 million whose destination is unclear
- fewer than 30% of the implementing partners came forward to account for the money
Dr Kaseya criticised the lack of transparency in how funds from international partners are tracked.
