Privacy policy
What we collect when you use this site, why, and the choices you have. We have tried to collect as little as possible.
Who we are
This site, www.panafricanewsmedia.com, is published by Pan Africa News Media. For any privacy question or request, write to newsroom@panafricanewsmedia.com.
What we collect
Newsletter: if you subscribe to the Morning Brief we store your email address and the page you signed up from. We use it only to send you the newsletter.
Show applications: if you pitch a show to us we store your name, organisation, contact details, and what you tell us about the show, so that our programming team can consider it and reply.
Advertising enquiries: if you use the form on our Advertise page we store your name, company, email address, phone number if you give one, and your message, so that our advertising team can reply.
Visit counts: we count how many times each page is viewed, roughly how many browsers visit each day, and which website referred a visit. These are daily totals only. We do not store IP addresses, do not use tracking cookies, and cannot tell who an individual visitor is.
Advertising counts: we count how many times each advertisement is shown and clicked. These are totals only and are not linked to you.
Preferences on your device: your browser keeps two small settings in its local storage, your light or dark mode choice and a marker that today's visit has already been counted. They stay on your device and are never sent to us.
Newsroom accounts: our writers, hosts and editors have accounts that hold their name, email address, job title, biography and photo. Names, titles, biographies and photos are shown publicly on their profile pages. Email addresses are not.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal information. We do not build advertising profiles of our readers. Advertisements on this site are placed directly by us and do not track you across other websites.
Services that receive information when you use the site
To run the site we rely on a small number of providers, who may process technical information such as your IP address in order to deliver pages to you: Netlify (website hosting), Supabase (our database and newsroom accounts), HighLevel, the customer-relationship platform we use (storing newsletter subscribers and sending the newsletter), Brevo (sending newsroom account emails), and Google Fonts (the typefaces used on the site).
When you play a video or audio programme, it is delivered by the service that hosts it, such as YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify or a podcast host. Those services have their own privacy policies and may set their own cookies once you press play.
Our “Across Africa now” section links to stories on other publishers' websites. When you follow a link you leave this site and that publisher's policy applies.
How long we keep it
Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Daily visit and advertising totals are kept so that we can compare periods over time; they contain no personal information. Newsroom account details are kept while the person works with us.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, or by writing to us.
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR, Nigeria's Data Protection Act, South Africa's POPIA or Kenya's Data Protection Act. Write to newsroom@panafricanewsmedia.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top.
