What we look for

• African achievement — awards, firsts, records and recognition.
• Business and innovation — launches, investment, expansion and new jobs.
• Science, health and education — research results, new services and programmes that change lives.
• Culture, sport and the diaspora — people and organisations doing remarkable things.

How we use what you send

An editor reads every release. We write our own story from it; we do not republish releases word for word. We check the facts before we publish, which may mean contacting you or the organisers of an award or event. If a claim cannot be checked, we leave it out.

We cannot cover every release, and sending one does not guarantee a story. Publication is free: we never charge for news coverage. If you want guaranteed placement with your own wording, that is a sponsored story or advertisement, which is always labelled as paid.

Make it easy for us

• Put the most important fact in the first sentence: who, what, where and when.
• Link to an official source we can check, such as the organiser's announcement or a published report.
• Add photos you own or have permission to share, with the photographer's name, in a Google Drive or Dropbox folder.
• Give us a person we can interview, with a phone number or email.
