Dodoma brings 111,515 residents into health coverage
Tanzania's capital region has extended universal health coverage to people with limited means in two phases, and is launching it with free health checks.

Dodoma — More than 111,000 people in Tanzania's Dodoma Region now have health coverage through a government-supported universal health coverage (UHC) drive aimed at residents with limited means, the Daily News reports.
In numbers
- 46,515 residents were enrolled in the first phase.
- 65,000 more were added in the second.
- 111,515 in total.
The region launched the programme on Thursday with free health screening for residents.
A message to families
Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule urged residents to join health insurance rather than wait until they are ill to look for money for treatment, warning that illness can come at any time. She also asked parents and guardians to enrol their children in the student health insurance scheme, which costs TSh 50,400 a year.
Tanzania has been working towards universal health insurance for all its citizens, and regional drives like Dodoma's are how enrolment reaches households that would otherwise pay out of pocket.
