Ethiopia will hold its seventh national Cybersecurity Month from 11 October to 9 November, with the protection of children online as its main focus, the Ethiopian News Agency reports.

The campaign is run by the Information Network Security Administration, the government's cybersecurity agency. This year's theme is "An Active Citizen for a Secure Country".

The agency's director-general, Tigist Hamid, said the rapid growth of technology had brought more cyberattacks on individuals, institutions and critical infrastructure. Wider public awareness was needed, she said, so that citizens and organisations understand the threats and know how to protect themselves.

What is planned

The month will include competitions aimed at young people and forums on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

This report is based on reporting by the Ethiopian News Agency, published by AllAfrica.
