Ghana are without a head coach again after Carlos Queiroz left the job for the second time this year, a month after he came back to it.

The Ghana Football Association said the 73-year-old Portuguese coach's contract had been ended by mutual agreement and in the best interests of the national team, Africanews and the Associated Press report. No successor has been named.

Two short spells

Queiroz was first appointed in April, replacing Otto Addo, and led the Black Stars at the World Cup. He resigned in July after they went out of the tournament following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia on 23 June.

He returned on 3 September. In Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, Ghana then lost 2-0 to Ivory Coast and 4-2 to Gambia. His departure was announced on 2 October.

Queiroz said he had come back determined to help build a stronger future for the team, but that the necessary conditions were not fully in place.

The search for a replacement comes with qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, to be played in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, already under way.

This report is based on reporting by Africanews and the Associated Press.
