A local councillor from Nigeria's Kogi State has died in the hands of kidnappers, days after she was abducted, Premium Times reports.

Rosemary Adukwu represented Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area. She was seized on 30 September around Oji River, near the border between Enugu and Anambra states, and taken to a forest.

"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Mrs. Rosemary Adukwu," said the council chairman, Ameh Williams.

She was buried on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre.

No ransom demand

Her family said the abductors did not contact them for almost a week to demand a ransom.

Two people have been arrested, according to the report: a driver and a person who answered a phone connected to the case. The state police spokesperson is Saliu Oyiza Afusat.

This report is based on reporting by Premium Times.
