Lagos gymnastics championship returns to give young gymnasts a stage
The third GYMFEST, at The Dome in Lekki on 7 November, follows two editions that drew more than 400 athletes from over 20 schools.

Lagos — GYMFEST, a gymnastics championship for young athletes, returns to Lagos for its third edition on 7 November at The Dome on Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Premium Times reports.
It is convened by the Tee Tumblers Gymnastics Club and the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria, and invites schools, clubs and coaches to enter their gymnasts.
So far
The first two editions, according to the organisers, drew:
- more than 400 athletes from over 20 schools
- more than 60 certified coaches
- over 2,000 spectators
- more than 20 volunteers, with no incidents
Why it exists
Yoyin Akpose, co-convener and founder of Tee Tumblers, said the event was created because young Nigerians interested in gymnastics have so few opportunities. The country has a great deal of untapped talent, she said, and the organisers hope to build the structures and standards that would let Nigerian gymnasts compete internationally.
Sarah Boulos, co-convener and founder of the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria, said the championship blends sport and the arts to build discipline and confidence in young people.
Gymnasts pay ₦20,000 to enter and spectator tickets cost ₦5,000. This year's edition is sponsored by ProvidusUnity Bank, with support from Leadway Assurance, Indomie, Studio 24 and YD Company.
