The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a nationwide grassroots mobilisation campaign in Abuja to encourage Nigerians to participate actively and responsibly in the 2027 general elections.

The programme, organised by the NOA on Thursday, October 15, 2026, aims to address voter apathy, discourage vote-buying and prevent electoral violence ahead of the polls.

The campaign is themed “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Future: Say No to Apathy, Vote Buying and Violence.” It seeks to promote civic responsibility, peaceful political participation and public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.

At the launch, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, called on eligible voters to recognise the importance of their votes and reject practices that undermine democratic values.

The Director-General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, highlighted the agency’s plan to take the campaign to communities across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The proposed awareness activities include radio programmes, community dialogues, drama, local-language communication and digital engagement to reach citizens across different communities.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, also emphasised the importance of cooperation among electoral stakeholders and citizens in promoting credible and inclusive elections.

The campaign places civic responsibility at the centre of preparations for the 2027 general elections. Citizens are being encouraged not only to vote but also to reject electoral malpractice, respect differing political opinions and contribute to a peaceful electoral environment.

As Nigeria moves towards the 2027 elections, sustained public awareness and active citizen participation will be important in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that voters can freely express their choices.
