The 18th Headies, one of Nigeria's leading music awards, will now be held on 10 and 11 April 2027 in Toronto, Canada, the organisers have announced.

The ceremony had been due to take place on 23 October 2026, Vanguard reports.

Why

The organisers said in a statement on their official Instagram page that the change is meant to create more opportunities for engagement across the music and creative industries.

What happens in the meantime

Their Road to the Headies programme will go ahead in the period originally set aside for the ceremony, with workshops, seminars and other industry events leading up to the awards.

The organisers apologised to guests who had already made travel plans or other arrangements for October.

The Headies recognise achievement in Nigerian music and honour artists and other people working in entertainment.
