An Ebola treatment centre in Mongbwalu, in Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has discharged its last remaining patients. Médecins Sans Frontières, which runs it, says it is the first time since May that the centre has had no confirmed Ebola patients under treatment.

Footage published by MSF on 28 October shows health workers and local residents dancing and singing outside the centre.

Not over yet

The milestone covers this one centre, not Ituri or the country, and new cases could still emerge. On 27 October, Congolese health authorities said the outbreak had passed 10,000 confirmed cases, the vast majority in the DRC.

Ebola is a severe viral disease spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people.
