Floods and storms wreck homes and farms across Taraba
The state emergency agency reports damage in seven local government areas after prolonged heavy rain and is telling riverside communities to move.

Jalingo — Floods, windstorms and fire have destroyed houses, farmland and infrastructure in seven local government areas of Taraba State, in north-east Nigeria, the state's emergency agency has said, Leadership reports.
The executive secretary of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Echuseh Audu, said prolonged heavy rain was behind the damage.
Area by area
- Gassol: major rivers burst their banks, destroying buildings and submerging large areas of farmland.
- Bali: significant damage to buildings and infrastructure.
- Ussa: homes damaged and heavy farm losses in Fikyu ward.
- Kurmi: widespread destruction of houses by windstorms, flooding and fire.
- Karim Lamido: several buildings damaged.
- Donga: homes, farms and infrastructure lost in Akate and Gyeta Aure wards.
- Sardauna: the Kakara community was badly hit, with houses and farmland under water and residents displaced.
The agency gave no figures for the number of people affected or for any deaths.
Advice to residents
The agency urged people living in low-lying, flood-prone and riverside communities to move to higher ground and to the temporary camps that have been designated. Dr Audu acknowledged humanitarian aid provided by the state government under Governor Agbu Kefas.
People displaced from Adamawa
Separately, the agency has distributed food and household items to people who fled communal violence in the Kwa and Pirre communities of neighbouring Adamawa State and are sheltering in Lau Local Government Area. The supplies included rice, maize, garri, cooking oil, mats and wrappers. An agency official asked them to keep the peace with the communities hosting them.
