Cairo — The sixth edition of Art d'Egypte's 'Forever Is Now' exhibition has opened at the Pyramids of Giza, setting contemporary art against monuments that have stood for some 4,500 years.
This year's show is led mainly by women artists. Its themes include spatial order and cultural memory, and it asks what it means to build something that outlasts its maker.
Arches and gardens in the desert
French-American multimedia artist Raphaele Shirley has made 'Passage', a series of arches of metal and woven palm reed stretching into the desert. "It's a portal in a way, but where people can walk through and experience the pyramids," she said.
French artist Geoffroy Pithon is showing 'Hortus Pictus'. "It's like painting architecture," he said, describing an "imaginary or poetic garden" emerging from the desert.
The exhibition runs until 28 November.
