US President Donald Trump has urged people in Minnesota to "fight back" against Somali immigrants, in a post on his Truth Social platform, Somalia's Shabelle Media Network reports.

Trump claimed the state was being taken over by Somali immigrants, said they should not "get away with what they are doing", and offered federal help if it was needed.

The White House did not clarify what "fight back" meant.

A repeated target

Minnesota has the largest Somali population in the United States. Trump's language about the community has sharpened since reports that dozens of people of Somali descent were convicted in fraud schemes in the state.

He has previously called Somalis "crooks" and described Somalia in insulting terms. He has also repeatedly attacked Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota congresswoman who was born in Somalia.

This report is based on reporting by Shabelle Media Network, published by AllAfrica.
