The federal government has released ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across Nigeria to close infrastructure gaps and improve teaching and learning facilities, the Federal Ministry of Finance said.

Where it goes

The money comes from the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund:

  • Universities (79): ₦28.5 billion
  • Polytechnics (46): ₦5.8 billion
  • Colleges of education (41): ₦4.7 billion

The ministry's head of media, Efe Ovuakporie, said the funds will let institutions start or continue approved projects on critical infrastructure. The release also carries out measures agreed in the government's memorandum of understanding with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

She said close coordination between agencies and the institutions will be essential for the money to show up as real improvements on campus. The list of institutions and their allocations is published on the ministry's website, finance.gov.ng.
