Egypt's Industrial Development Authority starts a simpler route to building permits for factories today, 1 November, aimed at ending duplicate reviews.

Under the new process, the Decennial Insurance Pool will look at structural design files only after the authority has approved the architectural drawings. Large projects must submit the stamped drawings with an official letter confirming approval.

Authority chairperson Nahed Youssef said a recent 90% cut in the estimated construction cost used to calculate insurance has already exempted most small and medium-sized industrial firms from filing policies with the pool. The new process is meant for the projects still covered.

Files received before 1 November will be finished under the old procedure.
