Airtel Nigeria has launched an Open Network service that lets subscribers see network developments in their area and report problems directly to the operator. It was unveiled in Lagos on Friday, with Nigerian Communications Commission head Aminu Maida attending.

In a statement, President Bola Tinubu called it a step towards greater transparency and consumer protection. He urged operators to keep investing, especially in underserved communities, and to answer complaints on time.

The network so far

  • Airtel's sites have grown from about 15,000 two years ago to more than 17,000.
  • More than 1,050 sites were added in its 2025/26 financial year, 657 of them 5G.

Tinubu also pointed to the government's zero-rated programme, which offers eligible students up to 100MB of free daily data for approved educational sites.
