Applications to have Egyptian professional qualifications recognised in Germany rose by nearly 90% in 2025, putting Egypt sixth in the world, according to Christian Grün, who heads the development department at the German Embassy in Cairo.

Grün said Germany faces a structural shortage of skilled workers, especially in hospitality and the crafts.

Two agreements signed

At the Labour Mobility Forum "Terminal Europe", which opened on 27 October, the Egyptian foreign ministry signed:

  • a memorandum with Germany's Federal Employment Agency on the organised movement of skilled workers and on vocational training;
  • a letter of intent with Siemens Healthineers to develop the skills of radiology technicians.

Grün said Egypt could benefit from remittances and from circular migration, in which workers return home with experience gained abroad. In July the two countries also agreed to develop Egyptian-German technical schools.
