MTN Nigeria made a profit after tax of ₦1.17 trillion in the nine months to 30 September, up 55.3% from ₦750.2 billion a year earlier, according to unaudited results released on Friday.

The numbers

  • Service revenue: ₦4.6 trillion, up 23.7%.
  • Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation: ₦2.6 trillion, up 36.8%.
  • Free cash flow: ₦1.17 trillion, up 57.5%.
  • Subscribers: 94.7 million, of whom 57.2 million are active data users.
  • Capital spending, excluding leases: ₦864.8 billion, up 14.2%.
  • Dividends paid: about ₦861 billion.

Chief executive Karl Toriola credited rising demand for connectivity and the company's investment in its network, including fibre to the home, which now carries about 13% of its data traffic.

"Every day, millions of people trust MTN to help them work, learn, run their businesses and stay connected," Toriola said.

He acknowledged that fibre cuts and other disruptions remain a challenge to consistent service.
