Egypt launches a patient safety plan for 2026–2030
A confidential reporting system for medical errors is the goal, so staff can report mistakes without fear.

Cairo — Egypt has launched a national quality and patient safety strategy for 2026–2030, Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said, to cut medical errors and build systems that learn from them.
What is in place
- A medical liability and patient safety law
- A dedicated patient safety department and a high committee joining public, military, police and private providers
- Egypt's first comprehensive patient safety report, for 2025, as a baseline
- A professional diploma in patient safety with the WHO; 70 doctors are in the first class
The minister called for a nationwide confidential system for reporting adverse events, saying the aim is learning, not punishment.
Building on success
Egypt holds WHO certification for eliminating malaria and trachoma, and keeps its gold-tier status on the road to eliminating hepatitis C. The accreditation authority GAHAR has accredited 964 facilities in 27 governorates and registered more than 122,000 health professionals.
