A new reality show, The Retoucher, wants to prove that a beautiful home does not need a big budget. Organised by the design firm Retouched By Flair and produced by Nollywood veteran Tade Ogidan, it premieres in the first quarter of 2027.

How it works

  • Auditions in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, with a fourth city under consideration
  • About 100 designers go to a boot camp for training and mentoring
  • 20 reach the 13-week show, transforming homes with African design ideas and materials
  • Homeowners from all walks of life can put their homes forward
  • Judges and the audience both score the results

Creator Debola Majekodunmi said good interior design should not be only for the wealthy, and that the field has big growth potential, alongside African food, music and fashion. Strategy adviser Hubert Davies said it doesn't cost a fortune to make your home your palace.

The organisers hope to take the format to East, North and Southern Africa, and are inviting brands, broadcasters and building-material makers to partner.
