Golfers from 20 African countries are in Abuja for the 2026 All-Africa Challenge Trophy, the continental women's championship, which First Lady Oluremi Tinubu opened on Tuesday at the IBB International Golf and Country Club.

It is the third time Nigeria has hosted the event, which runs until Saturday 7 November under the theme "Uniting Africa Through the Greens".

The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria is also using the championship to launch the Girls in Golf Legacy Project, which aims to introduce 300 girls to the game across the country's six geopolitical zones. Some of them joined the ceremonial tee-off.

Association president Lami Onayi and Nigeria Golf Federation president Segun Runsewe said golf should be open to people of all genders and ages, and noted the growing presence of Nigerian women in the sport.
