The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has backed Kenya's call for Saudi Arabia to review and lift Ebola-related travel restrictions, saying broad measures should rest on science and proportion.

Director General Jean Kaseya said Africa needs partnership rather than punishment, and solidarity rather than stigma.

Where Kenya stands

Kenya confirmed its first imported case on 6 October. It has recorded nine confirmed cases, including two deaths, all linked to that one case. There has been no new confirmed case since 19 October and no evidence of sustained community spread. On 3 November, five patients were discharged after negative tests, and 46 people completed 21 days of quarantine.

Africa CDC said finding an imported case shows preparedness working, not failing, and noted that France has also recorded an imported case. It asked Saudi Arabia to talk urgently with Kenya, the agency and the WHO, while keeping any measures that are scientifically justified.
