The shipping and logistics group CMA CGM has launched its first dedicated full block train in Kenya, running from the Port of Mombasa to the Nairobi-Embakasi Inland Container Depot.

The service began on 28 October with 54 wagons and room for 108 twenty-foot containers. It will start with one train a week carrying imports inland, and the company says it may add trains and a return service to Mombasa if demand grows.

It was developed with the Kenya Ports Authority and Kenya Railways. The launch was attended by Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Daghar, French ambassador Wadid Benaabou, KPA chief executive Capt. William K. Ruto and Kenya Railways managing director Philip Mainga.

CMA CGM also renewed a partnership with Bandari Maritime Academy to train Kenyan maritime and logistics staff.
