The National Sports Commission says the team is made up of 12 women and seven men in six sports:

  • Athletics: nine (five women, four men)
  • Swimming: four (two women, two men)
  • Table tennis: two (one woman, one man)
  • Boxing: one woman
  • Road cycling: one woman
  • Beach volleyball: a two-woman team

The squad has spent 21 days in camp since 9 October, with medical checks, anti-doping education, training, kit fitting and travel paperwork.

The Games, the fourth Summer Youth Olympics, are the first Olympic event ever held in Africa. They will be staged in three zones: Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly. The opening ceremony is at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium on 31 October, when table tennis and beach volleyball also begin.
