Tinubu launches his re-election bid in Kaduna
Nigeria's president defended his reforms at a rally of thousands. The vote is on 16 January.

Kaduna — President Bola Tinubu formally launched his campaign for a second term at a stadium rally in Kaduna on Saturday 24 October, in front of thousands of supporters.
He defended his economic policies and promised Nigerians "a better tomorrow", blaming the opposition for hunger and poverty and saying his government is working to eradicate them.
His All Progressives Congress says painful reforms are starting to pay off. Works Minister David Umahi pointed to completed and ongoing projects across the country.
The record and the race
Since taking office in 2023, Tinubu has scrapped fuel subsidies and devalued the naira. The reforms improved public finances and investor sentiment, but also brought a severe cost-of-living squeeze.
The election is on 16 January 2027. His main challengers are former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former governor Peter Obi, second and third in 2023. The economy and security are expected to dominate.
