South African diesel drivers get some relief from today. Diesel falls by 109.82 cents a litre for the 0.05% sulphur grade and by 119.82 cents for 0.005%, Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has announced. Petrol falls by just one cent a litre.

Other fuels rise. Illuminating paraffin goes up by R2.75 a litre wholesale. LP gas rises by 183 cents a kilogram, or 208 cents in the Western Cape.

A temporary levy cut is also in force. From today to 1 December, fuel levies are reduced by R3 a litre on diesel and R1.50 on petrol. Smaller cuts of R1.50 and R1 then run until 5 January 2027.

The department said Brent crude averaged $108 a barrel over the period, up from $101, because of uncertainty over the Middle East conflict and high freight and insurance costs.
