Egyptian student Mayar Othman, winner of the 2026 Arab Reading Challenge, has been awarded the Second-Class Medal of Excellence by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

He received her on Wednesday with her parents and Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif, congratulated the family and encouraged her to keep up her studies and her love of the Arabic language.

Mayar took first place in the 10th edition of the challenge, whose final was held in Dubai.

During the meeting, she recited a line of poetry and said the honour would push her to keep aiming for excellence.

The presidency said the government was committed to improving how Arabic is taught in schools and to recognising talented students.
