Mozambique has $7.5bn of work under way on its three trade corridors
President Chapo says the Nacala, Maputo and Beira routes will make the country the logistics hub of southern Africa.

Maputo — About $4.5 billion of investment is under way in Mozambique's Nacala corridor in the north, President Daniel Chapo said on Wednesday, with about $2 billion going into the Maputo corridor and more than $1 billion earmarked for the Beira corridor.
Opening the TRANS-LOG MOZ 2026 transport and logistics forum, Chapo said the aim was to turn the country's location on the Indian Ocean into real economic gains for Mozambique and its landlocked neighbours.
What each corridor gets
- Maputo: modernising the port, work on the EN4 highway and better border crossings into South Africa.
- Beira: new logistics infrastructure including the Dondo dry port and the Machipanda border link, to strengthen trade with Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and DR Congo.
- Nacala: rail and port upgrades, a special economic zone and new industrial parks, to make the north a centre for production and trade.
Chapo said private companies should take part through public-private partnerships, concessions and build-operate-transfer deals. He added that new roads and ports must come with simpler procedures, transparency and digital services, so that the corridors create jobs and cut costs.
