Egyptian swimmer Zain Ali won his second gold medal of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games on Wednesday, taking the men's 50m butterfly in 24.06 seconds. He had already won the 100m butterfly earlier in the week.

It was Egypt's third gold of the Games. In the provisional medal table published after Tuesday's events, Egypt was already the leading African nation with two gold medals and one bronze, ahead of South Africa (one gold, three silver, one bronze) and Kenya, whose girls won the rugby sevens.

Burundi, Madagascar, the host nation Senegal and Zambia had one bronze each at that point.

Senegal's futsal team stays in the hunt

In futsal, Senegal's young Lions beat Panama 5-4 in their second Group A game, keeping alive their hopes of a semi-final place.

Wednesday's other titles went outside Africa. Austria's Paul Hohenauer and Martin Poinstingl won the men's beach volleyball, and the Dutch pair Jara Both and Matilda de Groot beat Italy in the women's final.

By Wednesday night, 134 medals had been awarded, 42 of them gold. Reports of the day's results did not include a Nigerian medal. Athletics, boxing and many other sports are still to come before the Games close on 13 November.
