Nigeria's Flamingos are into the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup for the first time, after beating Brazil 3-1 in Wednesday's semi-final in Rabat, Morocco.

Queen Joseph opened the scoring in the 56th minute at the Mohammed VI Football Complex. Awawu Bashiru then scored in the 71st and 80th minutes to make it 3-0. Greise Kelly pulled one back for Brazil in the 89th minute, too late to change the result.

The win guarantees Nigeria at least silver, its best finish at the tournament. The previous best was bronze in India in 2022, when the Flamingos lost their semi-final to Colombia and then beat Germany in the third-place match.

Four wins in a row after a slow start

The campaign began with a 2-1 defeat to Poland. Since then the team has won every game: 2-0 against Puerto Rico, 3-1 against defending champions DPR Korea, 2-1 against Mexico in the round of 16, and 1-0 against Venezuela in the quarter-final through Azeezat Oduntan's 89th-minute penalty.

Brazil's goalkeeper Nathy kept the semi-final level at half-time with saves from Joseph and others, as Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Oluebube Umejiaku, Mary Dunstan, Kanyinsola Yusuf and Favour Nkwocha all tested her.

Nigeria meet Japan in the final on Saturday 7 November.
