Lagos's cane-weave Opebi–Ojota bridge will open before Christmas
Governor Sanwo-Olu says the steel design honours the old cane market at Odo-Iya Alaro, and the bridge is about 80% done.

Lagos — The Opebi–Ojota link bridge in Lagos will be open before Christmas, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said after inspecting the site.
He had earlier promised it for the end of September, and said he came to find out why it was late. The answer is the bridge's signature feature.
A bridge that remembers
The design is an elaborate steel sculpture of woven cane, a nod to the cane market the area is known for, Odo-Iya Alaro. The governor said the idea is to keep the area's history and culture alive in its infrastructure.
- More than 300 tonnes of steel are being installed at heights of up to 25 metres.
- The sculpture has four "fingers"; three are complete and the fourth will follow.
- The work is about 80% complete.
An LED screen will then light it up in the colours of Lagos. Sanwo-Olu said he wants it to be one of the city's landmark structures.
