The Nigerian government has approved a ₦70,000 transport allowance for workers across all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026, following an agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The agreement also provides for payment of the peculiar allowance arrears, effective May 1, 2026, in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.

According to the resolutions reached at the reconciliation meeting in Abuja, the government also agreed to settle 19 months of outstanding allowances owed to health workers within three months, beginning in December 2026.

Meanwhile, both parties agreed to constitute a Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee to begin discussions immediately, although they remain divided over the implementation date of the new minimum wage.

The meeting also addressed hazard allowances for agricultural officers and a proposed adjustment to the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

State and local governments were urged to participate in the intervention process, while labour unions were encouraged to push for its implementation.
